for our next excursion, we’re off to the library. in search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. we have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one earl jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).
for those that don’t know, cardiff’s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album “the offering” late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl’s words: “this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond….”

after profound synthesis, fundamental sounds return to the game with another special ep, warrios of xian. the first emperor of china built the xian warriors because he thought that those warriors could re-incarnate and return to life in this world or another. this record embodies that transcendental spirit, taking the ethos of that old chicago sound and letting it live on through the new word of some of its modern natives and far flung global brothers. at its centre is the dance floor.

jaxx madicine is a jazz-funk inspired house-ish outfit from milan consisting of turbojazz (local talk, gamm records), parker madicine (heist, bastard jazz brooklyn, ct-hi records) and the talented jazz keyboardist veez_0. with an organic and melodic sound collage you can hear influences from classic 70 s jazz funk labels and artists like cti, mizell brothers, kudu and bob james but also the current sounds of kaidi tatham, byron the aquarius and harvey sutherland. after their debut ep montreux they are now ready to drop their full album distant classic where the jaxx crew exit planet earth and treat us to a space music odyssey that is full of surprises. during the journey they deliver house, jazz, fusion, boogie and jazzy beats from a highly melodic keyboard perspective. all tracks are made with a genuine love for analogue synthesizers, fender rhodes, clavinets and some soulful mpc programming. distant classic is an album that can be enjoyed both in the club and at home, but we hope you will enjoy their melodic sounds on any platform. just press go and enjoy the trip.

byron the aquarius fires up the mpc for a journey into the stratosphere, bringing the heat for ele records 3rdedition with planet rock, a jazz infected keyboard jam with chopped hip hop samples echoing into the cosmos. cozy bear follows with nudi riddim a delectable mix of african percussion, jazz samples and acidic basslines. on the b side we find more hip hop infused methodology, with glenn davis digging into salsouls back catalogue with his huge summer anthem holdin on. finally, unknown artist is back on ele following on from the huge anthem ru$h. this time it s back to the mpc with a daft punk style 90s disco banger fade (never know).

after a short hiatus to axe on wax and his return to tieffrequent records monosoul is coming back to s4aw, too... monosoul s signature sound is still there and yet has changed a bit. more bouncing basslines, more deepness and more synth textures... on remix credits we ve got atlanta s very own byron the aquarius. 2016 was an exceptionally good year for him in the biz with releases on wild oats, sound signature, etc. in 2017 he will totally go big with his unique, deep - no frills jazzy impro style. so we re more than happy with his own chord jams making up a top notch remix. what s left to be said well like michael brody put it: nothing is more important than friendship. not money, not fame, not death. crew love is true love!

man of the moment corey baker, better known as pattern drama, is slated to release a 12 inch record on boston-based cenote records later this year. the wait for me ep feautres the namesake track backed by vocals from the incorrigible aquarius heaven and hezza fezza, and a second original track, a collaboration with the duo of johnny cruz and silky, aka dis-cern. sitting on the flip is a monstrous remix from francesca lombardo (crosstown rebels)

what is footwork house jam (fw)? first of all it is a long-running club night in moscow, russia, dedicated to real house music and house dance culture. started in 2010 as a small project, influenced by sound and visual esthetics of 90 s house parties in new york and chicago, fw soon has become the biggest creative community of dancers in russia, gaining strong local following and international reputation. it is the birthplace and home for leading moscow dance crews. various artists ep -footwork house jam #1- is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous moscow-based club night in particular. the idea behind this compilation is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on, blurring the boarders and eliminating the prejudices of the present times.
